Celebrating America with the art of Charles Wysocki/ Tea and Peaches in the Garden
Просмотров 6 тыс.7 часов назад
On July 4th, Our Independence day, I want to celebrate America using the artwork of a national treasure, Charles Wysocki, an artist that spent many years portraying the best of our Country's past through his hundreds of paintings. We will whip up a quick Peach Cobbler to enjoy in Kizzys Garden as a breakfast teatime. Books are: "Charles Wysocki's American Cookbook" By Joni Miller "An American C...

Some areas in your landscape can be tricky. We have a northern slope beneath the trees with very visible roots and many old stumps. It stays rather dry and has only dappled light. A perfect spot for a woodsy garden and a Stumpery. Most of the garden is established already, but needs a lot of cleanup, thinning and re-vamping. I love all of your videos! I have always loved "Americana" and Charles Wysocki. It brings up memories of when our Country celebrated the anniversary of our nation's founding in 1976. How did we get where we are today, I have to ask so often...Anyways, another one of my favorite artists that I am reminded of is P. Buckley Moss. Would love to know if you ever followed her. THank you again for sharing. God bless!

Broody hen….here is what has worked for me dozens of times. You separate them from the nest. You put them in a cage with water and food. Absolutely no nesting material. The cage needs to be off of the ground a couple of inches. Broody hens also have a very cantankerous personality. They puff up and are not nice to the other hens, and make different “clucking” sounds. When they no longer display these traits you have broken the cycle. I Have never seen a hen go longer than three days. If you have a hen that has sat on a nest for that long whatever egg she lays first again needs to be thrown away, as it will be a rotten egg. I know this as I learned the hard way. Hope this helps.

Hello Jeri , from England. My maternal ancestors were some of the first sailing from Plymouth to the New World, Orville and Wilbur Wright are also on my family tree my mother often used to tell us her family history, as it was told to her.My eldest son lived in America for 15 years, in Colarado he enjoyed the places he went to and the people who shared his life, but time went on and he felt the pull of home calling him back, he is settled now with a family living in middle England. My paternal family from Southern Ireland also have connections with America, as one of my Irish relatives told me there are more of this family in America than " old Ireland." Many nationalities helped build America including the Indigenous nations, the folk art books you showed here are a good collection of the various nations history. I like to collect old crockery etc and put them to good use, better that than have them stored behind glass, especially afternoon tea a ritual that deserves to be done properly in any country. 🤗 Thank you for sharing and with such ease of keeping the conversation going with your farmyard animals trying to get in on the vocals . Great stuff, I especially like to hear the Peacocks . Thankyou once again Jeri. 🤗🌞🙏

That is interesting because I have deep roots in England and have a strong affinity to all things English. My brother-in-law was a Genealogist and traced my dads ancestry to the Plantagenets ( which lead in dozens of fascinating directions). Your son chose an interesting state, Colorado, ( that's where I grew up!) as a good representation of the WEST. Yes, this country was developed from many different cultures, we used to be called the Melting pot.

A few months ago I purchased all the books by Charles Wysocki I could find. I love his work. It is busy for me to hang, but to look at in books is wonderful. I love that he loved America and used our flag in the paintings. It brings me back to simplier times and dreams of what could be. Your gardens look lovely and the seating area is dreamy.

I also use my mother's copy of the Betty Crocker Cookbook; I think mine is 1951, and my parents had some of those transferware dishes, but I think a later date without the serpentine embellishment on the edges (or was ours made by another company; I'll have to look that up). I think I need to go antiquing soon... 😂

Oh how lovely. I bought some lavender plants this year. The nursery guy told me which ones were perennial for our area. I'm late watching my videos due to planting my garden, etc. I don't plant until June 1st but this year I could've waited. It turned cold again. Then we had weeks of 95, feels like 110 degree weather so I had to get some sun shade over my tomato plants. The green tomatoes would just drop and I remember someone telling me it's too hot...they prefer high 70's and 80's here. Too much sun is one cause of leaf curl according to MIGardner. I just watched his video before I watched yours. I LOVE your seed packets and I'm sorry I missed out. I'm getting ready to watch the Charles Wysocki video next.

Hi Jeri! Your gardens are looking so lovely. Your wicker set looks like a great place to relax after all the hard work you do. I have a peach tree in my suburban backyard, but critters always steal most of the peaches. How do you prevent this? I am hoping to have a small orchard on our rural property, on which we are building a house later this year; I'm baffled about protecting my fruits from all the wildlife that we have out there. Any advice you can give (maybe in a video?) would be amazing! You are such an inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing your love of gardening and rural life with us all. God bless!

I'm not much help in the fruit department. We don't have a problem with birds, squirrels or the like, mostly insects. I am really at a loss as to how to protect my fruit trees without spraying chemicals on them, ( which I don't) many of my peaches had been attacked by Japanese beetles and stink bugs. The Japanese beetles also ate many of my grape leaves. It's very frustrating to wait on your fruit only to have it being devoured the next day by bugs. Wish I had an answer.....
